2011 Substation Contemporary Art Prize

Ungridded is a site-specific installation which will respond to the double arch windows in the Substation atrium.

The work will reconfigure the geometric grid of the existing window design, in order to activate a dialogue between the two identical window spaces. I aim to redefine the window spaces by establishing them momentarily as different from each other by imposing an asymmetrical design directly onto the windowpanes and surrounding brickwork. The design will also alter the colour of the windowpanes, further re-situating the focus of the windows from function to design.

2011 aRtECYCLE - Incinerator Complex

2011 'Possibilities Machine' (work in progress)

Possibilities Machine explores a state of emergence and collapse, construction and deconstruction, drawing a parallel with the state of our urban landscape as it is demolished, re-developed and renovated. The question remains, ‘Are we trying to build a sustainable future or are we merely trying to survive?

Conceptually my work interfaces with art, architecture and design seeking to re-imagine existing spaces and construct new ones, the placement of the work within the existing architecture is integral to the design. Architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahoney Griffin believed that landscape and architecture should be integrated and that a house should not dominate the landscape but be a part of it, with this in mind I have developed Possibilities Machine.

Description: The growth of a new habitat. Taking a common house hold feature like an archway I aimed to rearrange its identity and function. This was the beginning of my current research into architecture collapsing into sculpture coupled with an underlying ecological theme.

Description: Working with the architectural features of the gallery space this design came about by abstracting a structural beam. This painting attempted to play with the viewers perspective and experience of the gallery space.

I was included in the SIEMENS-RMIT Fine Art Scholarship Awards for two years running 2005-06

In 2006 I was awarded this an undergraduate travelling scholarship which led to a 3 month residency in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolvia in 2007

Description: 'Un-packing' looked at the instability of modern day renting. I created this work after moving 13 times in under 12 years, often after being asked to vacate by landlords planning on renovations and rent increases. I wanted to explore the feeling of trying to contain and release possesions and household items.

Description: In 'Un-packing2' I looked what would happen if I restricted my imagery and visual palette and dealt with the actual space the work was to exist in first. Engaging with the architecture of the space I began to explore the possibilities of breaking down the divide between floor and wall and built the installation upon this.
Hidden within the cardboard and paper was this animation.

Pequeño Gran Momento

Description: As the result of a 3 month residency in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, I created 'Great Small Moments' for Sala Simple Gallery in Santa Cruz. Building on recent investigations into space and how it is inhabited I wanted to combine a number of elements together like small visual experiments that made up the total experience. I focused on movement of the eye and movement of the body in and through the space.
